Editors Guild urges PCI to withdraw advisory to media to verify foreign content before publishing
The Editors Guild of India on Saturday urged the Press Council to withdraw its advisory asking media organisations to publish foreign content only after due verification. It warned that it could lead to “some form of censorship and punitive actions”.The Editors Guild said in a statement that it is “perturbed” by the Press Council of India’s advisory. “Through this advisory, it appears that the Council, which swears by self-regulation of media and believes that any government interference would be destructive to press freedom, is lending it’s weight towards a step that could bring in some form of censorship and punitive actions against those organizations that publish content, which in it’s view is seen as ‘not desirable’,” it said. The editors’ association pointed out that the advisory didn’t clarify how the foreign content will be verified. “The advisory does not specify who will verify the content, on what criterion will it be verified, and most importantly, what does ‘unregulated circulation’ even mean,” it said. The association said that several publications in the country reproduced and licenced content from foreign sources. It added that the editors made the decision to publish such content and took responsibility for it. “A reiteration by the Council at this juncture of this established practice, in an ominous sounding advisory, has disturbing implications,” it said. “Editors Guild urges PCI [Press Council of India], which should be committed to press freedom, to withdraw this advisory immediately.”PCI had issued the advisory on November 25.

BKU Ugrahan, the largest farmers’ union in Punjab, said, “We will not go to Nirankari Park and will sit on the outskirts of the national capital till the time permission for doing protest at Jantar Mantar is not given.”Meanwhile, farmers from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are continuing their march towards the national capital to join the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march.Security remains heightened at the Delhi-Haryana border at Tikri as farmers, who are opposing the three central farm laws, stayed put at the Delhi border points. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Condemns Police Crackdown On Protesting Farmers
NEW DELHI—Condemning the police crackdown on protesting farmers in bordering states of Delhi, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has called on the Central government to accept the demands of the farmers and repeal the three farm laws passed recently. In a statement on Saturday, JIH Vice President Prof Salim Engineer pointed out that the use of water-canons, lathi-charge, throwing teargas and erecting barricades to prevent them from reaching the National Capital to press for their legitimate demands was unwarranted. He advised the government to listen to farmers and respect their right to protest against the farms laws that they consider anti-farmer. Referring to the Delhi Police seeking permission of the Delhi government to convert nine sport stadia into makeshift jails to detain the protesting farmers, the JIH leader said that this approach would further alienate the farming community and give credence to the impression that government did not care about the welfare of the farmers and was not willing to negotiate or discuss their grievances.Stating that the Jamaat had earlier objected to the recently passed Acts related to the agriculture sector, Prof Saleem said that the Jamaat considered these acts as anti-farmer and against the spirit of Indian Constitution.

A Delhi court on Friday released Jamia Millia Islamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha — who was arrested under the stringent UAPA for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to organise riots in North-East Delhi in February this year — on three-day custody parole to appear for his compartmental examination in December.Tanha, who is pursuing his B.A. (Hons) in Persian, had moved the court seeking interim bail from November 30 to December 7 to prepare for three backlog exams scheduled to be held on December 4, 5 and 7.“The court deems it fit to allow the accused on custody parole for appearing in the said examinations. Accordingly, custody parole is granted to accused Asif Iqbal Tanha on December 4, 5 and 7,” Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat ordered. The court said that clearing the exams is necessary for Tanha to pursue M.A. in Persian, and that leniency must be shown to the accused by allowing him to appear for the said exams. After advocate Sowjhanya Shankaran, representing Tanha, submitted that her client didn’t not have the required reading material to prepare for the exams, the judge directed the Tihar Jail superintendent to provide necessary assistance, provided it is within the permissibility of the jail rules.

Former Pfizer chief claims Covid-19 pandemic effectively over, no need for any vaccine
As Pfizer pharmaceutical breaks news for bringing Covid-19 vaccine, a former vice president and Chief Scientist of the company Michael Yeadon said that there is no need for any vaccine to end the ongoing pandemic.According to a report published in the Lockdown Sceptics, Yeadon wrote: “There is absolutely no need for vaccines to extinguish the pandemic. You do not vaccinate people who aren’t at risk from the disease. You also don’t set about planning to vaccinate millions of fit and healthy people with a vaccine that hasn’t been extensively tested on human subjects.”Yeadon made the comment on the vaccine development while criticizing the role played by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), a government agency of the U.K.SAGE is tasked with a role to determine public lockdown policies in the UK, as a response to the Covid-19 virus.
