Jamaat-e-Islami Hind welcomes Law Commission’s assertion about undesirability of Uniform Civil Code
New Delhi, 01 Sept. 2018: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has welcomed the Law Commission’s assertion that a Uniform Civil Code is neither necessary nor desirable. In its monthly Press-Meet, the Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Muhammad Salim Engineer said: “we welcome the Law Commission’s assertion that a Uniform Civil Code is neither necessary nor desirable. However we do not favor any changes and reforms in the personal law as suggested by the panel.”
The JIH Vice President, Nusrat Ali also addressed the media regarding his visit to the flood affected areas of Kerala along with JIH Vice President T Arif Ali. He averred: “Kerala has been hit by massive flood and landslides due to heavy rains. The Kerala Chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind along with its associated organizations swung into action and carried out relentless relief and rescue activities. Full time work wascarried out by the (Ideal Relief Wing) IRW volunteers who even managed to reach those areas where the government machinery could not, like Adivasi colonies etc. Hundreds of volunteers actively engaged in relief activities risking their lives.After returning back from the visit and assessing the situation of relief operations in Kerala we have re-issued an appeal to all sections of society for providing more support and aid for those affected by the floods. We also appeal to various NGOs and social service institutions to come forward for helping out Kerala in its hour of need. We also demand that the Central government must also intensify relief operations and declare the floods in Kerala as ‘’National Disaster’’ considering the scale of destruction and loss that has taken place in the state’’. Replying to a question regarding the aid offered by the UAE government to Kerala flood relief, the Mr Nusrat Ali said: “India should accept the aid coming from the UAE for Kerala flood relief. India helps out other countries in need and has also accepted aid in the past’’.
Earlier the Jamaat Secretary General briefed the media and appreciated Special POSCO judge Nisha Gupta for showing courage to deliver timely justice in Mandsaur rape case. He said: “Jamaat would like to remind the government about the rapes in Kathua, Unnao, Haryana and Delhi etc. Should not these victims also get speedy justice? Jamaat feels that this system of speedy justice should also apply to mob lynching cases and to the Gujarat 2002 pogrom in which hundreds of minors were raped and killed. The government owes an answer to the world as to why it is not happening’’?
Expresses concern over the manner in which certain powers are trying to derail the Turkish economy, President of Jamaat, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari said, “the Turkish lira (TRY) has been steadily falling against the US dollar resulting in a steep fall in the value of the Turkish currency. The crisis came under the spotlight after President Donald Trump decided to double the trade tariffs on Turkish steel and aluminum imports. This trade war was a vindictive action against Turkey for not succumbing to pressure to release one American pastor accused of complicity in the failed 2016 coup to topple President Erdogan. President Trump’s Security Advisor Michael Bolton during his visit to Israel is on record saying that ‘this crisis could be over instantly if they did the right thing as a NATO ally, part of the West, and release pastor Brunson without condition’. Turkey is not ready to relent to this demand as it is a direct assault on their sovereignty. The economy of Turkey is not healthy as the inflation rate is over 15% and foreign debt amounts to 60% of its GDP. International financial institutions want Turkey to adopt strict austerity measures and increase interest rates to stem the falling value of the lira. The powers who want to stifle Turkey’s economy should realize that it is a major player in the global scheme of things and the derailing of its economy could have a spiraling effect on Europe and trigger a global recession.”
