UP Police under Yogi Govt condemned for extending VIP treatment to rapist of Muslim woman: jantakareporter
http://www.jantakareporter.com/india/police-extending-vip-treatment-rapist/127423/
In a shocking incident, a video of the alleged rapist of a Muslim woman in Bijnor enjoying VIP treatment inside a police station has now gone viral. What’s even more insensitive is that despite our repeated attempts, the UP Police has chosen not to react to the development.Janta Ka Reporter on Tuesday had reported how the alleged rapist of Muslim woman inside a moving train was enjoying VIP hospitality by Yogi Aditynath’s police inside a police station. A Govt railway police (GRP) constable, had raped the victim in a moving train on Tuesday. The rapist had locked the compartment reserved for disabled passengers of the Chandigarh-Lucknow Express. According to other reports, the victim was observing Ramadan fast when she was subjected to sexual attack.UP Police, which now reports to the BJP Govt , reacted at snail pace and far from treating the matter with utmost seriousness, decided to extend a VIP treatment to the rapist.Rifat Jawaid of Janta Ka Reporter, tagged Up Police on Twitter bringing the incident to its attention, but despite his tweet being retweeted more than hundred times, the cops have not bothered to react. This has prompted many to conclude that the UP Police’s alleged biases may stem from the fact that the rape victim in question happens to be a Muslim. This has come in sharp contrast to how the cops in UP reacted in nabbing the criminals who had sexually assaulted two girls in Rampur. The police had also moved in with lightening speed in posting the names of those criminals, all Muslims. However, its role in both Bijnor’s rape case and the gangrape of four Muslim women on Jewar-Bulandshahr highway has left the force utterly exposed. In the absence of any comments from the police, it’s only fair to conclude that the police in UP under Yogi will act on incidents of rapes only if the victims are not Muslims. jantakareporter

Acid thrown on Muslim girl in Haridwar, allegedly to force her family to leave 'Hindu' area
http://www.indiatimes.com/news/india/acid-thrown-on-muslim-girl-in-haridwar-allegedly-to-force-her-family-to-leave-hindu-area-322720.html
Haridwar: A 20-year-old postgraduate student of a city college sustained severe burn injuries after two motorcycle-borne men threw acid at her at Lal Pul near Jawalapur in Haridwar on Monday morning. The girl, who belongs to the Muslim community, alleged that she was attacked because the men wanted her family to leave the locality they were staying in — a predominantly Hindu area of about 200 houses in which the girl's family are the only Muslims.Girl, who is currently admitted in a Govt hospital, told TOI that one of her attackers, who has been identified as Sudhir Singh Tomar, a 45-year-old retired Army jawan, had also entered her house on May 25 at about 11pm when her parents were not at home. She alleged that he had threatened her with a pistol and sexually assaulted her, saying that her family should leave the colony as they were Muslims. She repeated the allegations in front of the local cops and the next day she, along with her mother, filed a police complaint.Meanwhile, the girl's mother told TOI that their family was living in the locality since 1996 and had started building another house in October last year. "The construction of this house is being objected to by the people in the area on the ground that we are Muslims. The people in the colony instead want to build a temple at the plot, and want to drive us out," she said.Police officials said that they had earlier received complaints by the residents of the area regarding unauthorised construction by the girls' family and the current matter also seemed to pertain to this dispute. Jwalapur police station in charge Amarjit Singh said that a case has been registered under Section 326 (A) of the IPC against Sudhir Tomar and his accomplice Vinit Saini for throwing acid at the girl. Meanwhile, the doctor attending on the survivor told TOI that she had sustained burn injuries on her upper arm, left scapula and right hand besides having blisters on other parts of the body. He described her condition as "serious" and said she was currently under observation. indiatimes

Bhopal: Situation peaceful after communal clashes over prayers as minarets discovered in Hamidia hospital
http://www.hindustantimes.com/bhopal/bhopal-communal-tension-situation-peaceful-after-stone-pelting-over-prayers-in-hamidia-hospital/story-NcMZwIwIzKsClJhxzBuE9I.html
Bhopal: The situation in the Old City area of Bhopal was peaceful amid police presence on Wednesday morning, hours after Muslims and Hindus clashed over the right to pray inside the Hamidia Hospital complex where some minarets were recently discovered. Some of the shops opened on Wednesday but the roads in the area have been partially barricaded. Internet services, which were blocked on Tuesday night to prevent rumour mongering through social media, were restored in the morning. The eastern gate of the Hamidia Hospital compound from where people were going to the disputed structure was sealed with tin barricades. Main gate remains open but people were being checked as a result of which patients had a tough time entering the hospital. Members of the Muslim community claimed the minarets found in a structure during digging inside the Hamidia Hospital were that of a mosque and wanted to offer prayers there. The city administration, however, did not allow them to do so, saying there was no sufficient proof that it was a mosque and that experts would decide on it.On Monday, members of the Hindu community wanted to pray in a temple inside the hospital campus next to the newly discovered minarets. They were not allowed to do so by the administration. Trouble started in Peer gate area in on Tuesday evening and spread to Budhwara Char Batti, Moti Masjid, Fatehgarh, Hamidia, Agrasen crossing, Imambara which saw intermittent stone pelting for over 3 and a half hours. At least 4 vehicles were set on fire near Peer Gate. According to reports, police have rounded up half a dozen people since Tuesday night, though the exact charge against them is still not known.HT

Tension in Aligarh over dispute between two communities
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/agra/tension-in-aligarh-over-dispute-between-two-communities/articleshow/58915685.cms
Agra: Communal tension prevailed in Visara Village of Aligarh on Tuesday following a dispute between two boys for two different communities over a mobile phone.According to police, trouble brewed when a Hindu boy allegedly took away a mobile phone from a Muslim boy. Though it appeared to be a prank, as the Hindu boy, Ravi, demanded a cold drink for giving the mobile back, the Muslim youth, Mohd Rabiya complained about the incident to his family.Police said apparently Mohd Rabiya had lost his phone while playing cricket and Ravi had picked it up. The situation took an ugly turn when Rabiya's family members got to know about the incident and they went to Ravi's home on Monday and started abusing them.Things turned worse when neighbours also joined in and started pelting stones at each other in which nearly 10 people got injured. Locals tried to resolve the issue but the two families refused to reach a compromise.Police said that they have received complaint from both the sides. Cases were being registered till the filing of this report. However, police claimed that situation is under control. In another incident, communal tension also mounted in Chandaus where Muslims were demarcating land between a mosque and Ram Leela ground by constructing a wall. Local Hindus objected and called the police, which stopped the construction. Police force has been deputed in the area to avoid any untoward incident. In another incident, a case was registered under section 354 of IPC against two Muslims following a dispute between children from two communities. The children, said to be minors, reportedly fought while playing and their families joined in, leading to a fracas. Police force was also deputed there.SSP, Aligarh, Rajesh Pandey said that situation is under control and police force have been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.TOI

We won't tolerate hate crime in the name of cow vigilantism, says Rajasthan CM Raje: DailyMail
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/indiahome/indianews/article-4553356/Rajasthan-CM-says-state-not-singled-hate-crime.html#ixzz4ieXw4oEc
Rajasthan has taken the 'digital route' to development, but incidents like cow vigilantism and hate crimes dent the image of the Govt , feels the incumbent CM .However, Vasundhara Raje said such acts are not exclusive to Rajasthan, but are taking place across the country. In an interview with Mail Today, Raje said such acts won't be tolerated and only the law of the land will prevail. 'Incidents of cow vigilantism are a matter of concern as they put the Govt in bad light, but such incidents are happening everywhere and not just Rajasthan. 'We have, in fact, acted swiftly and took strict action against the culprits. Such acts cannot be tolerated,' she said. CM, who will be completing her second term next year, takes umbrage on singling out Rajasthan over the issue of hate crime. She cites an example of honour killing where an engineer from Kerala was killed in Jaipur for marrying a Rajasthani girl, but police showed no leniency and arrested the killers immediately.

‘33 crore gods, goddesses reside inside cow’: Rajasthan HC judge who wants cow as national animal, life term for slaughter
http://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/rajasthan-high-court-wants-cow-as-national-animal-suggests-life-term-for-slaughter/story-RtsiNP2QYrSFaz1Ltv2FML.html
Jaipur:Rajasthan high court asked the central and state Govt s on Wednesday to declare the cow as India’s national animal and ensure life terms in jail for those who kill the animal considered holy by many Hindus.Justice Manish Chand Sharma also listed 11 benefits of cow urine while hearing a petition on the death of more than 500 cows at a Jaipur Govt -run shelter. “It is believed that 33 crore gods and goddesses reside inside the cow…cow is the only living being which intakes oxygen and emits oxygen,” the judge said, adding that the animal was a laboratory in itself. He retires on Wednesday.“It is expected from the Govt that it should declare cow as national animal and for this purpose the chief secretary and advocate general of state are declared legal custodians of cow,” the judge said in a 139-page order, calling himself a Shiv devotee. Justice Sharma quoted scientists from India and abroad to illustrate how the cow was good for mankind. Quoting German scholar Rudolf Steiner, he said the cow through its horns absorbed “cosmic” energy. Further, he quoted a Madras-based scientist to say that cow dung killed cholera germs. “Cow dung generates 4,500 litres of biogas,” the order says. If biogas is generated from all cow dung, the country can save 6.80 lakh tonnes of wood, he said. The judge also said that cow was important for the agricultural economy and called for legal entity to be provided to the cow as had been granted to the Ganga and Yamuna. Hindustantimes

Centre hasn’t banned cow slaughter or beef sale, only mass sale:Kerala HC

Kerala high court has dismissed a petition challenging a central Govt order regulating sale of cattle, saying it did not put a blanket ban on cow slaughter. The development came a day after the Madurai bench of the Madras high court put a four-week stay on the notification that outlawed sale of cattle for slaughter at animal markets and triggered a political storm in India.“...There is no ban on slaughter or sale of beef. What has been said in the new order is that mass sale of cattle for slaughter through the cattle market is banned,” the Kerala high court’s chief justice Navniti Prasad said. When advocate general CP Sudhakara Prasad pointed out the ruling of the Madurai bench of the Madras high court that stayed the new order, the chief justice expressed surprise. However, the petitioner, a Congress leader, argued that as preservation and protection of cattle came under the State list, only the state Govt has the power to make any regulations on cattle.HT

Curbs on cattle sale a violation of human rights, says S. Selvagomathy who obtained stay on cattle slaughter ban
http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/curbs-on-cattle-sale-a-violation-of-human-rights/article18662543.ece
S. Selvagomathy, Managing Trustee of Justice Shivaraj V. Patil Foundation for Social Legal Education and Development, NGO based in Madurai, took centre stage on Tuesday by filing a public interest litigation petition in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court and obtaining an interim stay on the statutory rules framed by the Centre banning the sale of cattle for slaughter in animal markets. The Hindu caught up with the 45-year-old lawyer-cum-activist for an interview after the order was passed. She said,"When the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules 2017 were notified by the Centre on May 23, the first thing that struck my mind was that they were in violation of not only the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution but also the basic human rights. That is the reason I decided to file a suit challenging the rules. I see the rules as a violation of the rights of the Dalits and the minority communities who are used to consuming meat. They also violate the rights of others who prefer to eat non-vegetarian food and those who sacrifice animals as part of religious practices. Imposing a curb on such practices is nothing but violation of human rights." Thehindu

http://www.ndtv.com/india-news/muslim-bodies-favour-ram-temple-uttar-pradesh-chief-minister-yogi-adityanath-says-in-ayodhya-1706305
Ayodhya: UP CM Yogi Adityanath made a pitch for a Ram temple in Ayodhya today, saying decks had been cleared by the Supreme Court for a settlement through dialogue of the Ram Janmbhoomi - Babri Masjid dispute. He said many Muslim organisations favour the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site. "We respect your feelings. There should be talks for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya. Many Muslim organisations in Lucknow have talked of handing over Ram Janmbhoomi to the Hindus," CM said. He was on his first visit to Ayodhya after he took oath in March, and spent the day there visiting temples, including the makeshift Ram temple at the disputed site and promising better development of the town with an investment of Rs. 300 crore, for which he gave credit to PM Modi. Adityanath was greeted in Ayodhya with chants of "Jai Shri Ram" and said, "Whenever one visits Ayodhya Dham, one can't stop oneself from chanting Ram's name." He was there, he said, to attend birthday celebrations for Mahant Nritya Gopal Das of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, a trust formed to promote and oversee the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya. His visit came just a day after senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and union Minister Uma Bharti were charged by a Lucknow court with conspiracy to demolish Babri masjid. NDTV

AMU not serving food to Hindus during Ramzan? University says news incorrect
https://www.thequint.com/india/2017/05/30/amu-not-serving-food-to-hindu-during-ramzan-truth
A religious debate started on Twitter when people started sharing posts that said AMU is not serving food to Hindus during the month of Ramzan. The debate started when an advocate at Delhi High Court, Prashant Patel, wrote the following on Twitter.People started re-tweeting and sharing it on different social media platforms. Soon, people responding to this tweet were divided. While some called it incorrect, others expressed shock. The Quint reached out to both AMU officials and the students to find out if the allegations hold any ground. Omar Peerzada, who is the PRO of University, told The Quint that the news was incorrect. Peerzada said that the AMU administration had instructed the mess authorities to provide food to non-fasting students on demand. He said that this was not something new and has been practiced for a long time now. Lunch was not served in hostels if the student does not demand it during the month of Ramzan, owing to the age-old practice, and the fact that very few people eat during the day. “University is over a 100 years old and never has such a news come out,” he added. He said that all students live in peace and support one another during the month. He also said that a number of Muslim students do not keep fast during the month due to various reasons, and they too are provided food in the halls if they demand it and also in the canteens in and around the university. The Quint also reached out to Jyoti Bhaskar, a mass communication student at AMU, who said, “It is a sad thing to bring a religious angle into the story.” He said that in MM hall, where he lives, breakfast and dinner is provided as usual. However, lunch is not provided because most of the people working in the mess are fasting, and it is difficult for them to keep fast and work at the same time. He himself goes to canteens around the campus for his lunch. However, he added that the non-fasting students who couldn’t afford to eat out can still get lunch if they write an application to the Senior Food Monitor to provide them food, and the authorities will do the needful. Meanwhile another student, Rashmi Singh, said the following in a Facebook post.In her post, she writes that in her hostel, Begum Sultan, the students are getting breakfast and dinner as usual. She pointed out that they are getting a “light lunch” because the number of students having lunch is less. She also added that she is getting to enjoy sehri and iftar as well.AMU's General Secretary Nabeel Usmani said that lunch not being served has been a practice for many years and has not happened for the first time. thequint

Unskilled labourers worst hit by note ban: World Bank report on India
http://www.catchnews.com/business-economy-news/unskilled-labourers-worst-hit-by-note-ban-world-bank-report-on-india-63171.html
The debate on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to demonetise 86% of the currency notes in November 2016 seems to have more or less settled in his favour.Since the decision was taken, BJP registered a thumping victory in Uttar Pradesh's assembly elections and India's economy registered above 7% economic growth in the September 2016- March 2017 period.Based on these numbers, the BJP supporters can safely argue that demonetisation hurt the intended class - those who hoard black money. If any doubts persist, the government can show reports from International Monetary Fund and the World Bank that are all praise for Indian economy. One such report released by the World Bank on 29 May says “fundamentals of the Indian economy remain strong, with robust economic growth, strong fiscal consolidation, low current account deficit, higher agricultural output, growing FDI, low inflation and higher wages in rural areas.” catchnews

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/05/huge-blast-rocks-kabul-diplomatic-area-170531040318591.html
A massive truck bomb blast has ripped through the heart of Kabul's diplomatic district, killing at least 80 people and wounding hundreds, in a powerful explosion described by officials as "one of the biggest" to have hit the Afghan capital.A tanker truck believed to be carrying either water or human waste exploded on Wednesday near Zanbaq square, in Kabul's 10th district, close to shops and restaurants, as well as Govt offices and foreign embassies. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, told Al Jazeera that the group was not involved in the attack. Police and health officials confirmed to Al Jazeera that at least 80 people were killed and more than 300 wounded in the attack. Aziz Nawin, IT engineer with Afghan TOLOnews outlet, was one of the first victims to be named.Mohammed Nazi, a driver with the BBC, was also killed, while four journalists from the British public broadcaster were being treated in hospital. An Afghan security guard at the German embassy also died in the attack. The victims appear mainly to have been Afghan civilians and there were no immediate reports of casualties among foreign embassy staff.Al Jazeera's Qais Azimy, reporting from Kabul, said the location of the attack was very significant, as it hit one of the Afghan capital's busiest and most secure parts."Kabul has been very quiet for the past week but police has confirmed to us that this was one of biggest blasts Kabul has ever seen," he said.Sigmar Gabriel, Germany's foreign minister, said that an Afghan security guard was killed and several employees of the German embassy wounded in the blast. Sushma Swaraj, India's minister of external affairs, tweeted that all of the staff at the Indian embassy "were safe in the massive Kabul blast". French officials said the country's embassy in Kabul was damaged in the attack, but there were no signs at this stage of any victims.

World watches as Yemen descends into total collapse

Yemen is descending into total collapse, its people facing war, famine and a deadly outbreak of cholera, as the world watches, the UN aid chief said on Tuesday.Speaking to the UN Security Council, Stephen O'Brien said "the time is now" to end the world's largest food emergency and put Yemen back on the path to survival."Crisis is not coming, it is not looming, it is here today - on our watch and ordinary people are paying the price," said O'Brien, the UN undersecretary general for humanitarian affairs."The people of Yemen are being subjected to deprivation, disease and death as the world watches."The crisis is spiralling towards "total social, economic and institutional collapse" in the poor Arab country, O'Brien added. His remarks reflected frustration with the Security Council's failure to pressure the warring sides in Yemen to pull back from the brink and engage in serious negotiations on ending the two-year war.More than 8,000 people have been killed since a Saudi-led coalition launched a military campaign in March 2015 against Iran-allied Huthi rebels who control the capital Sanaa. The conflict has left 17 million people facing dire food shortages including nearly seven million who are one step away from famine in the country, which is heavily dependent on food imports.Since late April, a cholera outbreak has killed 500 people while 55,206 Yemenis - one third of them children - are ill, according to UN figures. Bangui, CAR:A damning UN report has alleged horrific crimes in the Central African Republic including rape, murder, torture, kidnapping and the use of child soldiers, which could amount to war crimes and even genocide.UN said “appalling” crimes over 12 years between 2003 and 2015 were committed by the army, armed groups and international forces. Its report — which documents cases of gang rape, sexual slavery, the torching of entire villages and possibly genocide — was prepared for a new court that is being set up in the capital Bangui to judge the crimes. In a separate report UN said surging violence has killed hundreds and forced around 88,000 people to flee their homes since the beginning of the month, bringing the number of internally displaced people in CAR to over 500,000. Country has been struggling to recover from a three-year civil war between Muslim and Christian militias that started in 2013.AFP

Marawi: Officials say the death toll in troops' operation to flush out militants linked to Islamic State group who have laid siege to a southern Philippine city has risen to 129, with 89 extremists among dead.Military spokesman Restituto Padilla said Wednesday 960 civilians have been rescued, and an estimated 1,000 residents remain trapped in Marawi. He says troops have cleared almost 90% of the city, where the gunmen have been fending off the military for more than a week.Padilla says a video of a Catholic priest taken hostage appears authentic but is likely being used by militants for propaganda. The siege in Marawi followed an unsuccessful army raid to capture militant commander Isnilon Hapilon, designated by the Islamic State group as its leader in the Philippines.AP

http://www.readingeagle.com/ap/article/a-new-jersey-town-denied-muslims-a-mosque-now-it-must-pay-them-325-million
The worshipers waited four years and 39 public hearings for the official denial: Muslims in their small New Jersey town would not be allowed to build a mosque. The 2015 decision made by the planning board in Bernards Township, N.J., a majority-white suburb of 26,000 people, came after significant public opposition to the mosque that thrust the community into the national spotlight and spurred religious discrimination lawsuits from the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge and the Department of Justice. On Tuesday, the township learned the cost of its six-year-old decision: $3.25 million. As part of a settlement of the suits, the township must allow construction of the mosque to begin at its original proposed location, according to the Justice Department. Bernards Township will pay the Islamic Society $1.5 million in damages and $1.75 million in attorney fees and require town officials to submit to diversity and inclusion training.Washington Post/AP

"All the targets were hit," the statement continued, without specifying when the strikes occurred. Russian President Vladimir Putin was briefed on the successful strikes by Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, the Kremlin said.Al Jazeera’s Rory Challands, reporting from Russia's capital, Moscow, said the strikes, which came a day after the US conducted what it said was a successful shooting down of a mock intercontinental ballistic missile, could by seen as a show of force by the Russian army.
