Jamia, AMU protests LIVE Updates: The Delhi Police on Sunday evening entered the campus of Jamia Millia University after protests against Citizenship Act turned violent in South Delhi. They resorted to tear gas shelling and lathicharge inside the campus after tensions erupted in Sarai Juleina and Mathura Road earlier in the day. According to police, four buses were allegedly set on fire after which four fire engines were pressed to service to douse the flames. Schools in South East Delhi and Noida will remain shut on Monday.
According to Delhi Fire Service, students of Jamia Millia Islamia University blocked the way of one of the fire tenders and damaged it. Two firemen were also injured in the violence, they said. Delhi Traffic Police said in a tweet that the vehicle movement was closed from Okhla Underpass to Sarita Vihar due to the agitation. Vehicles coming from Badarpur and Ashram Chowk were diverted to alternative routes due to the blockade. Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar, Jasola Vihar Shaheen Bagh, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram, Patel Chowk, Vishwavidyalaya, GTB Nagar and Shivaji Stadium Metro stations were closed in view of the situation prevailing in the national capital. All India forum of save education forum calls for students strike in Delhi on Monday
Save education forum condemned Delhi Police action on Jamia students. In a statement, they said, 'All India forum of Save Education condemns the barbaric act by Delhi Police on the students of Jamia. In a shameful manner, the central government has unleashed violence on people who are protesting against the divisive communal Citizenship Amendment Act. Let it be Jawaharlal Nehru University or Jamia Milia Islamia Delhi, students have been met with unimaginable state violence. Unprovoked lathi-charge, tear gas firing, the open firing had made hundreds of students injured and many of them are in critical condition. We believe this is a planned attack on education to further silence people who are holding an opposite view with the government. Educational institutions can not be turned into a military occupied zone. The internal democracy and the right to free speech have to be upheld. Tomorrow we'll give Student Strike in all Delhi.'

The university will reopen on January 6. All examinations are hereby postponed. The rescheduled examination will be notified by Controller of Examinations on the website of the university in due course,” said Registrar A P Siddiqui in a notice.
