No links between Zakir Naik, terror outfits:govt tells House
http://www.deccanherald.com/content/561942/no-links-naik-terror-outfits.html
New Delhi:No links between the Islamic preacher Zakir Naik’s IRF and terrorist organisations have come to notice, the govt  informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In a written reply, Minister of State for Home, Hansraj Ahir, said reports indicated that some known terrorists have reportedly been inspired by Naik, the president of IRF.He said IRF was registered under the Foreign Contributions Regulations Act, 2010, and foreign contributions and their utilisation were checked. In case of violations, Ahir said, action will be taken under the provisions of the Act.On Peace TV run by Naik, the minister said the channel was not a permitted satellite channel for transmission on the cable network and hence cannot be aired by cable operators. On July 28, the govt  had told the Rajya Sabha that complaints were received recently that Peace TV was being shown by some cable operators in Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh and Aurangabad in Maharashtra and details were provided to the district authorities for action. Court rejects Akhlaq’s family's plea for inspection of meat sample
http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/court-rejects-plea-of-akhlaqs-family/article8935270.ece
Meerut: Fast Track Court of Gautam Buddh Nagar on Tuesday rejected the Akhlaq family’s petition for further investigation into his lynching. Yusuf Saifi, the counsel for Bishahra lynching victim Akhlaq, had in his petition requested further investigation in view of the, “fresh facts revealed by the villagers’ petition for a case of cow slaughter” against Akhlaq’s family.Ram Sharan Nagar, counsel of the accused said that, “Court rejected Saifi’s petition on grounds that there was nothing new in the plea and, at this stage, the police had completed their probe, arrested all the accused, and filed a charge sheet.”For instance, Saifi’s petition had requested the court to seek registration of FIRs against 3 more people who were allegedly involved in the killing. Akhlaq's family had also demanded an inspection of rest of the meat sample taken from the spot to ensure that it is not "tampered with". Court noted that the pieces of flesh recovered from near the trijunction of Akhlaq's house in Dadri's Bisada village are part of the "evidence" in the case of cow slaughter lodged against Akhlaq and six of his relatives. Saifi said 3 more residents of Bisada, who testified during the hearing of cow slaughter petition and had confessed to having been present at the spot during the time of the incident, should be included in the list of accused. “3 people, Sanjay Rana, Kancchi and Ompal, had confessed during the proceedings that they were present at the spot. Kancchi and Ompal testified in the court that they had caught hold of Akhlaq, while Sanjay said he called the police,” said Mr Saifi. “We brought it to court’s notice that it should direct the police to add their names in the FIR.” 18 persons, including three juveniles, have been arrested on charges of murder and assault in the case. “Interestingly, while trying to prove that Akhlaq slaughtered a cow, the 3 above named people had actually confessed to their role in the crime as well. Sanjay Rana is the father of Vishal Rana, who is an accused in the case,” he added. the hindu/ TOI

UN backtracks on role in Kashmir, says limited to LoC: PTI
http://www.deccanherald.com/content/561958/un-backtracks-unmogip-role-kashmir.html
UN: In an unusual move, the UN has backtracked from its statement that it will continue to monitor the situation in Kashmir through its military observer group in India and Pakistan, clarifying that the mission does not have a mandate beyond the LoC. The clarification was issued by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric yesterday, a day after UN chief’s deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq told reporters that the UN will continue to monitor the situation in Kashmir, including through “our monitoring group” UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). Dujarric said regarding the situation in Kashmir, “I just wanted to clarify something, which is that UNMOGIP, the UN observer presence there, its mandate is to report on the ceasefire between India and Pakistan along the LoC. UN Mission there does not have a mandate there beyond the LoC.” When asked why he was making the clarification, Dujarric said, “because I think it needed to be said”. The clarification seems to imply that the situation and incidents in Kashmir are India’s internal matter and do not come under the control of UNMOGIP that only observes and reports on ceasefire violations along the LoC and does not monitor the situation in J&K Dujarric was also asked why the Secretary General does not initiate efforts to settle the Kashmir conflict, even as the world body is trying to resolve conflicts in Cyprus and the Middle East. Kashmir witnessing ‘new wave of freedom movement’ says Nawaz Sharif: indianexpress
http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/nawaz-sharif-kashmir-freedom-movement-2951812/
Islamabad: Upping the ante, Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said Kashmir was witnessing a “new wave of freedom movement” and asked the diplomats to apprise the world that Kashmir was “not an internal matter” of India. Addressing concluding session of 3-day Envoys Conference organised by foreign ministry here, Sharif said, “resolution of the lingering dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people is the corner stone of Pakistan’s foreign policy”.“Today Kashmir is witnessing a new wave of freedom movement,” Sharif said, needling India on a day when Home Minister Rajnath Singh arrived here to attend the SAARC Interior Ministers’ Conference. “This movement is running into the bloods of third generation of Kashmiri people and the world has itself seen its intensity in the wake of July 8,” Sharif said, referring to the killing of Hizbul man Burhan Wani. “Kashmiri youth are writing new chapters of sacrifices to get the right to self determination,” he said. “They have lost eyesight due to bullets but the desire for freedom is guiding them to the destination,” he added. He asked Pakistani envoys to apprise the world that “Kashmir was not an internal matter of India”. “Ambassador should make the world feel that Kashmir is not the internal problem of India, as India already accepted it as dispute territory and the UN also declared it as a dispute between India and Pakistan,” he said. The conference was attended by envoys of Pakistan posted at Washington, Beijing, New Delhi, Afghanistan, UN New York, UN Geneva, Vienna, Brussels and Moscow among others. Sharing his vision with envoys, Sharif said that all bilateral issues with other regional countries should be solved though talks in a peaceful way.

Issues related to most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim and cross-border terrorism are likely to be the focus of Home Minister Rajnath Singh at the SAARC Interior/Home Ministers' meet tomorrow during which he will underline meaningful cooperation among the South Asian countries. Before leaving for Islamabad to attend SAARC Home Ministers' Conference, he tweeted that he was "looking forward to underscore the imperative of meaningful cooperation within the region against terrorism and organised crime.""This Conference provides a platform to discuss issues pertaining to security," said Singh, who is expected to tell Pakistan to stop sponsoring terror in India and rein in groups like LeT and JeM. It was not immediately clear whether Singh will meet his Pakistani counterpart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan separately due to sudden strain in India-Pakistan relations after Islamabad glorified the death of Hizb militant Burhan Wani. Singh is undertaking the visit notwithstanding threat by LeT founder Hafiz Saeed, who warned of a countrywide protest in Pakistan by his outfit if Singh arrives in Islamabad to attend SAARC conference.DNA

Srinagar: Tuesday's attack on the house of J&K education minister Naeem Akhtar is only the latest instance of brazen defiance in the trouble-tossed valley. In the last few days, 2 other PDP MLAs, one of them a minister, have been targeted by angry mobs. One of them, Khalil Bandh elected from Pulwama, has been in critical condition in a Delhi hospital since July 18.Rural development minister Abdul Haq was set upon at Tangdhar in north Kashmir by an angry mob with stones and chased. He managed to escape in his cavalcade, sources said. Bandh was also attacked by mobs that left him with a grievous head injury.J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti, was also heckled by parents of students appearing for medical entrance test at the Govt Women's College in Srinagar last Sunday and had to beat a hasty retreat from the examination centre.Nearly all BJP ministers and MLAs have left for the "safer" haven of Jammu. This is not all. Cops have been forced to evacuate nearly 10 police posts and stations in south Kashmir under attack by mob. CM has instructed cops to remain invisible from the roads and streets. This, according to her, said sources, would douse the anger of protesters. A senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, said Mehbooba even instructed the police to apologise to the Kashmiri youth for the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. timesofindia
