'Uri terror attack staged by India to create Sikh-Muslim hatred', says Pak media: TOI
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Uri-terror-attack-staged-by-India-to-create-Sikh-Muslim-hatred-says-Pakistan-media-/articleshow/54420729.cms
New Delhi: Pakistan's media has developed a fascinating new thesis - India staged the Uri terror attack to create hatred between the Sikh and Muslim communities in Kashmir. Here's how Pakistan's The News International has come to the above conclusion. "Sources in the security establishment insist that the military brigade HQRS (in Uri), which has been the target of what is believed to be India's false flag operation, is Sikh dominated, chosen deliberately to antagonise the Sikhs from supporting the Muslims' struggle in Kashmir," the newspaper said today.Pakistani security sources told the newspaper that "Sikhs have openly supported the just cause of Muslims" for independence in Kashmir. They then added that "it is always the Sikh community selected to suffer by the Hindu-led govt in such self-designed attacks."The News International said that India's so-called "staged attack" in Uri had multiple goals."It is said that from this false flag operation, India wants to achieve more than one targets, including accusing Pakistan of backing terrorism, diverting the world attention from the killings by its forces in occupied Kashmir, undermining PM  Nawaz Sharif's address at the UN General Assembly session and creating hatred between the Sikh and Muslim communities in Indian-held Kashmir," Pakistani security officials told The News International. As evidence to show Uri was staged by India, the newspaper asked how terrorists could sneak in so easily."India has erected a type-A fence all along the Line of Control besides installing state-of-the-art laser sensors to detect any cross LoC movement,"the newspaper wrote. A source is quoted as telling the paper: "How then a handful of terrorists could sneak across, dodging the third largest army of the planet earth with its hi-tech gadgets and their ferocious K9 force?""Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is known for spewing venom against Pakistan, was to leave for his Russian tour on September 17 but cancelled his trip one day prior to the impending attack in Uri. 'Hope he wasn't waiting to see the unfolding of virtual play which he and (India's NSA) Ajit Doval had jointly scripted,' a source suggested."Another Pakistani newspaper Dawn called India bloodthirsty, in the light of BJP leader Ram Madhav saying that to avenge Uri a tooth for a tooth isn't enough, and it should be "a jaw for one tooth.""...it was not a surprising reaction to the terror attack that came from Ram Madhav, an RSS-loaned trouble-shooter for the Hindutva establishment in Delhi. He promptly called for a jaw for each tooth, whatever that means in a region crawling with nuclear weapons," Dawn wrote.TOI

New Delhi: A day after the Uri terror attack claimed the lives of 18 Army personnel, New Delhi has decided to up the ante against Pakistan on the global stage — much like it did after the 26/11 Mumbai attack. Govt has decided to field External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who is likely to raise the terror attacks in Uri and Pathankot in her speech at the UN General Assembly (UNGA). Sources said she is likely to deliver her address — on behalf of the govt of India — on Sept.26. The speech will not be the only diplomatic move to corner Pakistan. Sources said the Indian mission to UN will also set up bilateral meetings with a host of foreign ministers and other leaders representing various countries at UN — in a bid to highlight Pakistan’s role in terrorist activities in Kashmir and other parts of India. OIC backs Pak, asks India to cease atrocities in Kashmir, settle issue in accordance with wishes of Kashmiri people, UNSC resolutions
http://indianexpress.com/article/world/world-news/organisation-of-islamic-cooperation-backs-pak-asks-india-to-cease-atrocities-in-kashmir-3040409/
New York: Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has backed Pakistan and called on India to immediately cease ‘atrocities’ in Kashmir and peacefully settle issue in accordance with wishes of Kashmiri people and the UNSC resolutions. OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani Monday expressed concern over the situation in Kashmir and called for an immediate cessation of atrocities by India, urging the Indian govt for peaceful settlement of the dispute ‘in accordance with wishes of Kashmiri people and UNSC resolutions’. Expressing their solidarity with the Kashmiri people, OIC group “reaffirmed their resolve to remain the voice of the Kashmiris’ at the international stage.” Madani’s remarks came after Pakistan Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz addressed a meeting of the OIC Contact Group on J&K. Aziz referred to the killing of ‘youth leader’ Burhan Wani and the use of pellet guns by Indian forces against Kashmiri protesters following his death. Aziz said such measures cannot break the spirit of the Kashmiri people and their legitimate struggle for self-determination. “Underscoring that Kashmir dispute remains central to lasting peace and stability in South Asia, the Adviser regretted that India had failed to reciprocate Pakistan’s proposal of meaningful engagement for the resolution of the J&K dispute,” according to a statement by OIC contact group.PTI

After the anger died down, BJP govt officials sat down to mull over their options, after the militant strike on Indian Army soldiers in Uri. Sources within the BJP on Monday said that India was against any knee-jerk reactions and they were weighing all options for a calibrated response.Earlier in the day, the govt had gone into a huddle with back-to-back high level meetings to decide the appropriate response to the attack. First, Home Minister Rajnath Singh conveyed a high-level meeting with top officials to review possible responses that the country could afford to go in for Within 15 minutes of this, PM Narendra Modi steered a meeting with his senior cabinet colleagues. Those in attendance were Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, NSA Ajit Doval and Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag. External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj’s absence, however, raised eyebrows.Meanwhile, India in its right to reply at the 33rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva asked Pakistan to stop supporting terrorism and vacate illegal occupation of PoK as it highlighted rights violations in Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh and persecution of minorities including Hindus. dnaindia

New Delhi:CPI(M) on Monday accused the Centre of delaying implementation of measures suggested by an all-party delegation to restore normalcy in Kashmir and wondered if the NDA govt  was “allowing” disturbance to polarise people ahead of the polls to UP and other state assemblies.Speaking after the culmination of party’s 3-day Central Committee meeting, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the govt  should resume dialogue with all stakeholders, including Pakistan, besides taking confidence building measures to restore peace in the Valley.“Govt should begin sincere implementation of what the all-party delegation on Kashmir suggested to it…the senior ministers were all part of the statement. “Both the Central govt and the state govt should initiate a political dialogue with all stakeholders. This, unfortunately, has not happened yet. Normalcy can be restored only through a dialogue,” Yechury said.Kashmir is one of the issues on NDA govt’s agenda for India-Pak talk. PTI

http://kashmirreader.com/2016/09/20/which-philosophy-makes-you-mourn-uri-but-derive-pleasure-from-kashmir-massacre-geelani/
Srinagar: Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has said that New Delhi, its “local stooges” and Indian media were indulging in war mongering to divert the attention of the world community from the atrocities committed by Indian forces in Kashmir at a time when the UN session is underway, a Hurriyat spokesman said.“Syed Ali Geelani said that 35 members of Sikh community were massacred when Bill Clinton visited India and it was done deliberately to hoodwink America and international community. Similarly Uri episode is being used in same nature to demoralise people and create suspicions about people’s movement(sic),” the spokesman said.Geelani, the statement added, said loss of human lives was a matter of serious concern and as human beings “we feel the pain and believe in promoting universal brotherhood”.“We never derive pleasure from human sufferings, and the forces personnel who lost their lives were humans,” Geelani said but termed it ‘ironical’ that Indian politicians blamed Pakistan and created war euphoria. He also “slammed India media for biased reporting and irrational reviews”.“Taking dig at local stooges he said that they in a bid to gain favors of their masters scolded and blamed Pakistan without assigning any logic,” statement said.Asking Indian politicians and the media to shun “their dubious and double standards”, Geelani said, “We feel there is no difference between humans and the blood is sacred, but the question arises why a deal of double dealing is followed.” kashmirreader

Ridiculous to say US created Islamic State says Senior US official during India visit
http://zeenews.india.com/news/india/ridiculous-to-say-us-created-islamic-state_1931010.html
Hyderabad: The Islamic State (IS) is a direct threat to US and to suggest that US created the group or is supporting it is "preposterous", said a senior US State Department official, noting the the US is doing everything it can to defeat IS, in coordination with 66 countries."That is absolutely ridiculous. ISIL is a direct threat to our own national security. To suggest that we support ISIL is preposterous," Jared Caplan, director of the Department of State`s London Media Hub, told IANS during an official visit here. Asked to react on allegations in various quarters that US created IS, funded and armed it, Caplan, who is also the State Department`s Arabic spokesperson, said US was not only carrying out air strikes against IS in Syria and Iraq but is also stopping flow of foreign fighters, checking radicalisation, turning off flow of finance and working to defeat its ideology. "We are trying to expose their true nature as a group of thugs and terrorists who have hijacked religion in the name of their own goals," he said."ISIL is a real threat not just to Syrians and Iraqis but to neighbouring countries, to our allies in region, to Europe and ultimately a threat to US and that is why President Obama said despite the long term nature of campaign, we are committed to win war however long it takes." US official described winning the war against IS, the situation in Syria, and threat from its Bashar al-Assad regime as long-term challenges before the US.Terming the situation in Syria as "very complicated" given the number of players and the amount of external factors involved, he said at the end, it is the Syrian people who have to decide their future.Caplan believes that the 7-day cessation of hostilities agreed by US and Russia could be the most promising way to end the war, as this could lead to partnering with Russians through Joint Implementation Centre to launch joint operations against IS.He is of the opinion that if the plan succeeds, they can move forward on the political track to solve the Syrian crisis. US wants UN to be involved in the negotiations to find a solution.IANS

Supreme Court questions Centre, AMU about norms flouted in appointment of VC
http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/aligarh-muslim-university-vice-chancellor-supreme-court/1/768094.html
New Delhi:Questioning the mode and method in which the V-C of Aligarh Muslim University has been appointed, the apex court asked how UGC rules could be ignored in the appointment process. The bench headed by Justice TS Thakur said that the university cannot modify or digress from the existing norms to suit itself. Ministry of HRD and AMU told the SC that the position of V-C is not of a 'teacher' hence the eligibility criteria and the number of years of teaching experience does not apply to that post.Shooting a pointed question, CJI TS Thakur questioned the AMU and the Central Govt, "Why should a bureaucrat be brought as a V-C? Why shouldn't it be an academician or a professor? They work hard." The court further clarified that the question is not the competence of bureaucrats or army officers but whether their appointment is well within the rules. The court was hearing a public interest litigation argued by Prashant Bhushan who told SC that all UGC norms have been flouted in the appointment process of Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah as the VC. He said that the earlier order of the SC had merely asked for a VC to be appointed under the existing rules. Salman Khurshid who represented Shah at the SC said that AMU is a minority institution as the appointment of Shah was well within the rules. SC has kept the matter for detailed hearing on Sept.26.indiatoday

Subhash or Jinnah? In Bikaner, how a road divides Hindus and Muslims
http://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/jinnah-or-subhash-in-bikaner-how-a-road-divides-hindus-and-muslims/story-H9m4u5a2ni3qDPlHOZdvaL.html
Bikaner: Many historians blame Muhammad Ali Jinnah for the India-Pakistan partition in 1947. Oddly enough, a busy road in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district carries forth his legacy even today – acting as a physical and symbolic divide between the Hindu and Muslim communities. Naming of roads has always been a matter of great political significance, a fact that became evident when BJP MP Maheish Girri sought the rechristening of Aurangzeb Road in New Delhi to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road last year. But nearly 447 km away in Bikaner, a district roughly 20 times the size of the national capital, a 500-metre stretch of road bears a title that’s open to communal interpretation. It’s Jinnah Road for Muslims, and Subhash Road for Hindus. Running parallel to a railway track, the road gets congested near Kote Gate – one of the many entrances to the erstwhile walled city of Bikaner – as it meanders along dilapidated buildings, fancy hotels, tea stalls, meat shops and the occasional mobile recharge shop. Ex-mayor Maqsood Ahmad, who owns a hotel on the road, believes it was named after the Pakistan founder many decades ago in the country’s past. “Poets used to sit here long back, and it was probably they who named the road after Jinnah,” he said, raising his voice to make himself heard over the din of passing vehicles. Ahmad said though the road was rechristened Subhash Marg in 1967, Jinnah’s name was engrained too firmly in public memory to fade away with time. “Look at the King Edward Memorial Road, for instance. It’s now titled Mahatma Gandhi Marg, but how many people do you ever hear calling it that?” he asked. Bikaner municipal commissioner Rakesh Jaiswal says that though the stretch is named Subhash Road in official records, most local residents still invoke Jinnah’s name while referring to it. Even Google Maps seems undecided in this regard. It calls the stretch of road extending till Chaukunthi flyover as Jinnah Road, and the rest of the route as Subhash Road.HT

While 190 families are being evicted from Banderdubi, 160 families are being evicted from Deochurchang. Heavy security arrangements were made since yesterday in the two areas but as eviction began this morning, the situation turned tense with protestors squatting and resorting to stone pelting. Senior police officials present at Banderdubi urged the protestors to move away but they turned violent with the security forces resorting to lathicharge, tear gas shelling and then opened fire to disperse them. Two persons were killed in the firing including a woman, identified as Anjuma Khatun and the man as Fakhruddin. With tears rolling down her eyes, Bangladeshi woman Tamanna Khan says: “It was my mother who sold me to a trafficker in India, when I turned 18."She was rescued three years ago, by Akash who came to her as a customer, but was pained to see Tamana in a miserable condition, desperately asking for help. She escaped to her parental home in Dhaka, where her mother again tried to sell her. Tamanna then eloped with Akash, and the two eventually got married. But the mother, who had to already taken money from a trafficker, lodged a police complaint against Akash for kidnapping Tamanna. Seema, 20, another Bangladeshi girl was trafficked by her uncle, who promised her a job in a bar. Instead, she was sold for Rs 2.5 lakh and raped by over a 100 men in five years. New Delhi: Abuzar, 14, died at Apollo Hospital on Sept.13. His death certificate says he died of “dengue shock syndrome with multiple organ failure”. But the 14-year-old does not figure in the city’s municipal records of dengue deaths. Nor do the names of 18 other residents of Shaheen Bagh and Abu Fazal enclave in Jamia Nagar who died of mosquito-borne disease. Death certificates of 10 of these victims and blood test reports of seven others show they died of dengue, but civic bodies have refused to budge from their official count of four deaths and 1,378 infections in the Capital this year.Locality in south-east Delhi has a population of around 100,000. According to activist Sameer Khan, at least 30 people have fallen to dengue in the area in the last two months. Families of two victims have left for their ancestral village, neighbours said. Questioning the official toll, local lawmaker Amanatullah Khan said three of his relatives had died of dengue and more than thousand other residents were unwell. “Every family in our neighbourhood has someone or the other unwell. How can there be only four deaths? 3 of my relatives have died. I meet MCD officials every day and we are using 10 fumigation machines across the area,” Khan said.3 deaths were reported from Shaheen Bagh’s D Block and almost every other lane has either lost a resident or is suffering from fever.Area councillor Shoaib Danish is also learnt to have been down with fever. “Why is the govt  hiding the deaths when they should be identifying the problem and solving it?” asked 30-year-old Mohammed Javed, who lost his 4-year-old daughter to the disease on Sept.12.South Delhi Municipal Corporation, however, continues to live in denial. “We declared 4 deaths because the case history of all other deaths has been sent to a committee probing the cause of death,” said SDMC additional commissioner (Health) Meeta Singh.Next to the banks of the Yamuna, the 2 areas next to each other are under the Okhla constituency.HT

UN suspends all Syria aid after convoy bombed

UN has suspended all aid convoys to Syria in the wake of an attack on aid trucks that could amount to a "war crime", according to a top UN official. Air raids rocked northern Syria's Aleppo province on Tuesday, hours after 18 trucks in a UN humanitarian aid convoy were hit in an area west of Aleppo city, killing at least 12 people. "As an immediate security measure, other convoy movements in Syria have been suspended for the time being pending further assessment of the security situation,"UN humanitarian aid spokesman Jens Laerke told a news conference in Geneva on Tuesday, adding the UN had recently received permission from the Syrian govt  to deliver aid to all besieged areas in the country.US said it was unclear if it was a Russian or Syrian plane that hit the 31-truck UN aid convoy late on Monday, but officials placed the blame on Moscow, a key ally of embattled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad."Americans are firmly blaming the Russians, saying they’re not reining in Damascus," Dekker said. In the wake of Monday's aid convoy strike,UN said it was suspending all convoy movement in Syria, and International Committee of the Red Cross President Peter Maurer said the attack could have "serious repercussions" on humanitarian work in the country. The new wave of bloodshed came after the Syrian army unilaterally declared the end of a week-long truce brokered by the US and Moscow. Govt and the rebels traded blame over the collapse, each accusing the other side of hundreds of breaches.Syrian Arab Red Crescent was also hit during Monday's strike, as was a warehouse run by group. Ground battles between pro-govt forces and rebel fighters raged on Tuesday morning on the southwestern outskirts of Aleppo city near the strategic Ramosa military complex, according toUK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, as air raids pounded the northern province.
