Jamaat-e-Islami Hind denounces lynchings, says govt assurance having no impact on ground

New Delhi: An Islamic forum has said the Centre’s assurance that those involved in mob lynchings would be acted against was not having any impact on the ground, and the situation was “deteriorating very fast”.Referring to recent cases of lynching, including that of teenager Junaid near Delhi, the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maulana Umari advised the Muslim youth to avoid being “instigated”, which he said would only aid communal forces.“The spate of mob lynchings rages persistently in trains, buses and public places. It is highly regrettable that there is a feeling of fear and insecurity among citizens in many places of the country. Those in power assure us that breaking the law will not be tolerated and the guilty will be awarded exemplary punishment but the reality is that this assurance is not having any impact on the ground,” Umari said in a statement. He said Muslims should not use the language of fear and despondency nor use the language of confrontation and communalism and instead “build bridges with fellow countrymen”. HT /PTI

Nagpur: 4 persons have been arrested for assaulting a Muslim man carrying meat at Jalalkheda, about 35 kilometers from Nagpur on Wednesday. “Salim Ismail Shah, 32, was carrying 15 kgs of meat on his motorcycle from Amner village to Katol, when he was accosted by 4 persons who beat him up, alleging he was carrying beef. Shah sustained injuries for which he was admitted to a hospital, from where he has been discharged,” Jalalkheda Police Inspector Vijaykumar Tiwari said. 4 arrested have been identified as Moreshwar Tandulkar, Ashwin Uike, Janardan Chaudhary and Rameshwar Taywade.Tandulkar is said to be the tehsil unit chief of Prahar Sanghatan, an organisation headed by Bacchu Kadu, an independent MLA from Achalpur (Amravati).Tiwari confirmed that Tandulkar is the tehsil chief. On inquiring whether any of the other 3 had any links to Bajrang Dal or VHP, Tiwari replied in negative. Tiwari said, “We have sent the meat sample to a forensic laboratory to find out if it was beef or something else. We haven’t registered any offence against Shah as of now.” On being asked where was Shah headed with the meat, Tiwari informed, “Apparently there was some community programme at Katol and Shah was carrying it for the programme.”A video clip of the assault, showing the man being dragged and kicked around, went viral on social media.Indian Express

Muslim man in Hisar assaulted for not saying ‘Vande Mataram’; one arrested
https://thewire.in/157091/muslim-assaulted-hisar-vande-mataram/
New Delhi:A group of people in Hisar, Haryana who had gathered for a Bajrang Dal-organised protest against the recent Amarnath yatra attack heckled and assaulted a Muslim man outside a local mosque on Tuesday. Some reports have said the man, 30-year-old Mohammed Haroon Kasni, was the imam of the mosque, though he has said he was only there to pray. After a video of the incident went viral on the internet, the main accused was arrested by the police on Wednesday, The Hindu reported. In the video, the protestors are seen as forcing Kasni to say ‘vande mataram‘ and ‘Bharat mata ki jai‘ – when he does not comply and tries to talk to them, he is slapped. “We won’t allow Muslims to live in Haryana like this, we will throw them all out,” one of the protestors told ABP News. “If we see even one Muslim here, we will burn them alive. How can they live in India and not say ‘Bharat mata ki jai’?”“Wherever there are Muslims in majority in this country, not a single Hindu is safe,” said another protestor.“But where there are majority Hindus in this country, there is no threat to any Muslim.” Ironically, this was after group he was a part of had assaulted Kasni. Kasni has said he was trying to tell the group that he is also against terrorists, but nobody listened. “I kept explaining that I am also against the terrorists and traitors of the country. But they did not listen and slapped me after dragging me out of the mosque where I was performing namaz,” he said. He added that this was his first time in Hisar – he had come from Mirjapur Pol village in UP’s Sahranpur district. “They targeted me because it was easy for them to identify that I am a Muslim because of my beard and cap. Others hid in different corners of the mosque. They would have killed me had the police not arrived,” he said.“Anil was the person who slapped Mohammad Haroon, a mango trader, outside the mosque yesterday…he has been arrested,” DSP, Hisar, Jitender Singh, told The Hindu.“Around 100-125 unidentified people were protesting outside the mosque. A few members of the mob became agitated and starting kicking the door of the mosque. Hearing the commotion,Haroon came out and he was then manhandled and slapped by members of the mob, according to a complaint filed by the mosque’s caretaker Abid Hussain,” Singh added. He refused to comment on whether the attackers were members of the Bajrang Dal.The Wire

Azadi Kooch, rally to mark 1-yr of Una uprising, stopped in Mehsana, leaders, protesters detained by Gujarat Police

A year ago, 4 Dalits were publicly beaten, stripped and humiliated by Gau Rakshaks in Una, Gujarat when they were removing a dead cow from the streets. Gau Rakshaks, who were emboldened by the support from the BJP, went on to make a video of the incident and circulated it widely. What followed over next one month was, without a doubt, one of the biggest Dalit uprisings in the recent times against the atrocities committed on members of marginalised communities by Hindutva goons. Between August 4 and 15, nearly 1 lakh people from various parts of the country participated in rallies and protests held between Ahmedabad and Una. On its first anniversary of the Una uprising, the Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch had decided to organised the Azadi Kooch, which aims to not only remind everyone that atrocities continue unabated against Dalits, but also seek answers from Gujarat Govt  over the failure to deliver on its promises made last year. On Wednesday, as RDAM under the leadership of Jignesh Mevani decided to take out a rally from Mehsana to commemorate the struggle, it seems that little has changed:after denying them permission to start their rally,Mevani was subsequently detained along with student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, Patidar leader, Reshma Patel and scores of other protesters. Mevani is leading a 7-day march from Mehsana to Dhanera to mark one year of the Una flogging incident.Police had earlier cancelled the permission to the march from Mehsana. At the conference organised by RDAM yesterday in Ahmedabad, Mevani had asserted that the march will proceed as planned and he was ready to be detained by the police. Before their arrests, the public meeting was joined by the ongoing farmers’ rally Kisan Mukti Yatra led by activist Yogendra Yadav and others. Both Yogendra Yadav and Kanhaiya Kumar had addressed the public meeting earlier in the day.TCN

New Delhi:At least 30 people, including activist-brothers Tehseen and Shehzad Poonawalla, were detained by the police after they assembled outside Parliament here on Wednesday to protest against recent incidents of lynching. The activists gathered at Vijay Chowk to take “an oath to uphold the Constitution” and urge fellow citizens not to remain a “mute spectator” to mob lynchings. The event was organised by the National Campaign Against Mob Lynching, which had last week unveiled a draft anti-lynching law, Maanav Suraksha Kanoon (MASUKA). A police officer said the activists were detained as they gathered at the venue without permission. .“…youngsters were detained for wanting to take a pledge on our Constitution that we will uphold the rule of law…We want MASUKA or a law against vigilantism and mob lynchings and we will uphold peace and social harmony,” said Tehseen. He also took to Twitter to react to the police action.PTI

Even as communal tension continues in Dakshina Kannada district in coastal Karnataka, a 33-year-old Muslim fruit vendor’s attempt to save the life of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker, who was stabbed in Bantwal taluk, has moved many hearts. The incident occurred on July 4 when unidentified assailants attacked RSS member Sharath Madivala at around 8.30 pm after barging into his family-owned laundry shop in the busy town of BC Road, or Bangalore Chikmagalur Road, in Bantwal taluk, 20 km from the district headquarters of Mangalore.Abdul Rahouf, who runs a small fruit shop near the laundry, rushed to the spot and took Madivala to the nearest hospital in his autorickshaw. However, despite Rahouf’s efforts, Madivala succumbed to his injuries on July 8. Madivala’s family thanked Rahouf for his selfless service. “I know Rahouf and we must thank him for taking my son to hospital,” Madivala’s father Thaniyappa told this correspondent on Monday. Kashmir dispute: India rejects China offer, says ready for dialogue with Pakistan
http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-rejects-chinas-offer-of-intervention-in-kashmir-issue-says-will-talk-to-pakistan-under-bilateral-framework-4749094/
New Delhi:Dismissing China’s offer of playing a ‘constructive role’ in resolving the Kashmir crisis,  India on Thursday said it was open for talks with Pakistan on the issue.“Our stand is absolutely clear. You are aware that the heart of the matter is cross-border terrorism emanating from a particular country that threatens peace and stability in the country, region, and the world. We are ready to have a dialogue with Pakistan on Kashmir under a bilateral framework,” MEA spokesperson Gopal Baglay said at his weekly media briefing in New Delhi. Expressing concern over the mounting tension between India and Pakistan, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang on Wednesday had said “the conflict occurred near the Line of Control of Kashmir. This will not only harm the peace and stability of the 2 countries but also the peace and tranquillity of the region.”The remarks from China came at a time when both the neighbouring countries and their armies are locked in a stand-off in Doklam area in Sikkim. Gopal Bagely, however, said that the 2 countries are using diplomatic channels to ease the tension. He also reiterated that both PM Modi and President Xi Jinping shared a conversation over a range of issues when they met at the G20 Summit, a claim that has been rejected by China. Meanwhile, Centre is under fire from the opposition for the way it handled the Sikkim border issue and Kashmir situation. Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj will brief the opposition about India’s stance on both the issues at a meeting on Friday. The govt hopes to build support among the Opposition ahead of the Parliament  monsoon session beginning Monday.indianexpress

India shifting nuclear focus from Pakistan, developing missile that can hit all of China: US experts

Washington:India continues to modernise its atomic arsenal with an eye on China and the country’s nuclear strategy which traditionally focused on Pakistan now appears to place increased emphasis on the Communist giant, two top American nuclear experts have said.An article published in the July-August issue of the digital journal After Midnight has also claimed that India is now developing a missile which can target all of China from its bases in south India.India is estimated to have produced enough plutonium for 150-200 nuclear warheads but has likely produced only 120-130, wrote Hans M Kristensen and Robert S Norris in the article titled ‘Indian nuclear forces 2017’.While India has traditionally been focused on deterring Pakistan, its nuclear modernisation indicates that it is putting increased emphasis on its future “strategic relationship with China,” they wrote. hindustantimes

Islamabad:Growing Indo-Israeli military ties could push Pakistan and China to further forge defence cooperation, a Pakistani commentator said in remarks published on Thursday.“India’s hectic efforts to enhance its military ties with Israel will probably make Pakistan and China foster their economic and defence cooperation in the region,” independent researcher Ayaz Ahmed said in The News International newspaper.“Both Pakistan and China have recently come so close to each other that it appears rather elusive for India to pursue its hegemonic designs in the Indian Ocean region. The more India militarily partners with other countries, the more Sino-Pakistan partnership becomes stronger to block Indian disruptive objectives in South Asia.” Ahmed added, in the wake of Indian PM  Narendra Modi’s path-breaking visit to Israel this month. Ahmed said India’s decision to embrace Israel was also likely to turn the growing Indo-Iranian relations hostile.IANS

Muslims’ enrolment in WB varsities abysmally low:survey
http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/enrolment-of-muslims-in-bengal-varsities-abysmally-low-says-survey/article19265509.ece
Kolkata: The percentage of Muslim students in leading State and Central universities of West Bengal is abysmally low, revealed 6th  All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) for the year 2015-16. The report, prepared by the Ministry of HRD (MoHRD), was released on Monday. Among elite institutions that could not enrol any Muslim student in 2015-16 are the Presidency University in Kolkata, Visva Bharati in Shantiniketan, IIT-Kharagpur, the West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education Planning and Administration in Kolkata, IIIT in Kalyani,  Kazi Nazrul University in Asansol, West Bengal State University in Kolkata, and Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswa Vidyalaya in Mohanpur.Amity, a private university, also has no Muslims among the 1,140 students enrolled in it. However, it is not clear from AISHE report if Muslims are listed under the OBC category by the institutions.“That is unlikely as the number of Muslims is indicated under a separate column for all other institutions,” said an expert associated with similar surveys in the State.A little over 27% of Bengal’s population is Muslim. In nearly all of the State’s universities and institutes of higher education, the percentage of Muslims stands between 0 and 3%.West Bengal Minister of State for Minority Affairs Giasuddin Molla did not deny that Muslims were failing to make it to the institutes of higher education in the State. “In a few places, the number of Muslim students is very low and we are trying to figure out the reasons,” he said.A 2016 report on the status of Muslims published in 2016 by the Pratichi Institute founded by Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen and Association SNAP, a social network of volunteers, stated that owing to “higher population share of Muslims in rural areas, the overall literacy rate [69.5%] of Muslims is substantially affected.” Govt data indicates that the dropout rate of students from primary and secondary schooling is higher among Muslims. The Hindu

Gazdar, who was arrested by ED for money laundering, was granted bail with surety of Rs 5 lakh.Confirming the development, ED lawyer Hiten Venegaonkar told India Today that it was easier for him to get bail because he is not an accused in the case filed against Naik by NIA.Gazdar's lawyer said that ED was not able to prove any crime was committed after the ban on IRF."ED booked my client under section 10, 13 and 18 of UAPA," said advocate Mubin Solkar adding, to prove these charges they are required to sight a proceed of crime which took place after IRF was banned on Nov.17 last year.A case was registered against Gazdar a day after gov's ban. "The only crime they sighted was purchase of a land in 2006, but IRF was banned much later. Hence the rigors of section 45 under Prevention of Money Laundering Act didn't apply and it was argued as a normal bail application,"said Solkar.India Today

Legal safeguards to prevent excessive pretrial detention are routinely flouted across states in India, leading to the violations of detainees’ fair trial rights, Amnesty International India said in a new briefing published today.Briefing, “Justice Under Trial: A study of pre-trial detention in India”, analyses the responses to about 3,000 RTI applications filed by Amnesty International India to the nearly 500 district and central prisons in the country on the implementation of safeguards to protect the rights of pre-trial detainees, or ‘undertrials’.“2 out of 3 people in India’s prisons are undertrials, and this proportion has not budged for several years despite various Supreme Court judgments, executive guidelines and legal reforms,” said Asmita Basu, Programmes Director, Amnesty India.TCN
Muslim Leaders slam Yogi for scrapping graveyard fund
http://www.indiatomorrow.net/eng/muslim-leaders-criticize-yogi-for-scrapping-graveyard-fencing-fund
Lucknow / New Delhi: Muslims in UP  are criticizing the Yogi Adityanath Govt  for scrapping the fund for fencing of graveyards. In its first budget for 2017-18, the Yogi govt. of UP  has not only scrapped allocation for graveyards but also downsized overall minority welfare budget. In the Samajwadi Party Govt  of Akhilesh Yadav, a separate budget of Rs. 200 crore was allocated for boundary walls of graveyards. The amount was increased to the tune of Rs. 400 crore in 2016-17 budget. However, the Yogi Govt  has completely abolished that allocation.  Mohammad Naim, state president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind said the govt. has betrayed Muslims by this move."To stop the budget for boundary walls of the graveyards is wrong. Govt. has betrayed Muslims. It is really unfortunate that the budget for minority welfare has also been reduced. Rather to increase it the govt. has reduced it. It is not proper. This shows the face of RSS which has been against minorities," Naim said.Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, one of eminent clerics in Lucknow, also criticized the Yogi Govt  for slashing minority welfare budget.Expressing his resentment Yasoob Abbas, General Secretary of All India Shia Personal Law Board  said, "Govt  must focus on the graveyards as the population in urban areas is increasing but the numbers of graveyards are not increasing. So, there is a problem where to bury the dead bodies. Many graveyards have been disappeared as land mafias have encroached upon the lands of graveyards and built up buildings there."IndiaTomorrow

Delhi: Chandni Begum, 40, had not imagined that one day she will be sitting on the road in defiance of 50-odd policemen, until Delhi Development Authority (DDA) bulldozers reached near her dilapidated house in Amir Khusro Park of south Delhi's Nizamuddin area on Wednesday. Begum's protest halted the traffic for almost half-an-hour.The residents of the area were protesting against demolition of parts of a mosque by DDA. This is the second time in the last two months that the DDA has launched a demolition drive in the area."Earlier in May, they demolished my house. Today, they destroyed a part of our mosque even though we have a stay order from the Delhi High Court till July 24," Begum said.Saleem, another resident of the area, said:"We kept requesting them to spare the mosque, but they first destroyed the tin shed next to the mosque and then 3 of its walls. How can they touch the masjid's unacceptable."DDA, however, denied all allegations of demolishing parts of the mosque. "We have only removed the unauthorised structures. Everything constructed in the Amir Khusro park is illegal, except for the 3 religious structures that are really old," a senior DDA official said."We will clear this area completely and construct a public park here," he added.

Karachi: Despite calls for resignation from the Opposition and media, Pakistan PM  Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said he would not step down in the wake of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report, which concluded that him and his family not only concealed assets from tax authorities, but also committed perjury by submitting fake documents to conceal information. At a Cabinet meeting in Islamabad to discuss the current political crisis, Sharif said his party, PML(N), bagged more votes in general elections than the aggregate of those demanding his resignation. “I will not resign on the demand of a group of conspirators. The journey of progress will not be allowed to derail as the country has already paid a huge price due to political crises in the past,” he was quoted as saying by state-run media. Opposition parties have persisted with resignation demand. Opposition leaders Imran Khan of PTI and Bilawal Bhutto of PPP have warned that “democracy could be in danger” if Sharif did not agree to step down. The SC is expected to decide the fate of Sharif when it takes up the JIT report on Monday. 2 judges of the court have already declared PM  as not being truthful. If three judges agree on the findings of JIT, Sharif could face disqualification from politics. the hindu

New Delhi: A serious setback to Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif following the disclosure that his daughter and putative heir apparent, Maryam Sharif, had concealed ownership of the family's offshore assets and companies threatens to create new security complications for India. A JIT probing the Panama Papers, in its report to the supreme court, accused Maryam of forgery. JIT has charged the ruling family with perjury, having disproportionate income and living beyond their means. It said Sharif failed to satisfactorily answer most of the questions put to him during his appearance before investigators on June 15. "He was generally evasive and seemed preoccupied during the interview. Major part of his statement was based on hearsay," the report said, adding that Sharif remained non-committal, speculative and at times non-cooperative while recording his statement. The report further said Sharif tried to "parry most of the questions" by giving indefinite answers or by stating that "he does not remember, ostensibly to conceal facts".

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson ended talks with ministers from Saudi Arabia and 3 Arab allies on Wednesday over how to end a month-long rift with Qatar, but there was no immediate word of any breakthrough.Tillerson returned to Kuwait, the mediator between the feuding Gulf countries, without making any statement on his talks in the Saudi Red Sea city of Jeddah. He had signed a US-Qatari accord on terrorism financing on Wednesday, but Qatar’s opponents said it fell short of allaying their concerns.Tillerson met the foreign ministers to try to end the worst dispute in decades among the US-allied Gulf Arab states. He also met separately with Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss cooperation in combating terrorism and its financing. “We’re happy to see this continuous cooperation between us and (to) even strengthen it and increase it further without limits …”Mohammed bin Salman said in welcoming Tillerson. US officials said Tillerson would travel to Qatar on Thursday to brief the emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, on his talks in Jeddah, State Department spokesman RC Hammond said.UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahayan told reporters during a visit to Slovakia that Tillerson’s visit was unlikely to resolve the row.middleeastmonitor

An influential US Republican senator has criticised the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, over a blockade on Qatar by the kingdom and three other Arab states. The comments by Bob Corker, chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, came as tensions in the region continue over crisis, with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson expected to make an unscheduled stop in Doha on Thursday."The amount of support for terrorism by Saudi Arabia dwarfs what Qatar is doing," Corker said on Wednesday. Corker said he was "really disappointed to see what Saudi Arabia did after having a great summit and bringing everybody together", referring to May's Riyadh conference that saw leaders of the GCC and other Arab states meet US President Donald Trump."I think this is quite possibly a rookie mistake by a crown prince who I think could be the future for Saudi Arabia," Corker added.Al Jazeera's Heidi Zhou-Castro, reporting from Washington, DC, said the Saudi crown prince is "widely seen as among the blockade's chief architects and a chief organiser of the alliance behind it".She said that Corker has been among the blockade's strongest US critics, adding that the senator has threatened to block weapons sales to members of the GCC until there was a clear path for settling the dispute. Jakarta:Civil organisations in Indonesia on Wednesday decried a move by the Govt  to disband certain groups deemed to be in conflict with state's secular ideology. The protests came after President Joko Widodo signed a decree on Monday widely believed to be aimed at containing the rise of hardline Islamist groups that call for sharia law in the world's largest Muslim-majority country.Islamist groups were instrumental in the downfall earlier this year of Jakarta's former governor, a Christian who was accused and subsequently jailed for insulting Islam. The events, including massive and sometimes violent rallies led by hardliners and vigilantes, raised concerns about the erosion of Indonesia's long-standing image as a tolerant and pluralistic state. It has the world's largest Muslim population."This decree is proof that this regime is repressive, authoritarian, and even repeating what the New Order regime did," Ismail Yusanto, spokesman for Hizb-ut Tahrir Indonesia, referring to the rule of ex-strongman president Suharto, said in a statement that was echoed by human rights groups. HRW: Iraq forces collectively punishing Daesh families
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20170713-hrw-iraq-collectively-punishing-daesh-families/
Human Rights Watch has accused Iraqi security forces of forcibly relocating at least 170 families of alleged Daesh members to a closed “rehabilitation camp” as a form of collective punishment. Iraqi authorities shouldn’t punish entire families because of their relatives’ actions said Lama Fakih, deputy Middle East director at HRW.“These abusive acts are war crimes and are sabotaging efforts to promote reconciliation in areas retaken from ISIS [Daesh].”“The camps for so-called ISIS families have nothing to do with rehabilitation and are instead de facto detention centres for adults and children who have not been accused of any wrongdoing,” Fakih said. “These families should be freely permitted to go where they can live safely.”Iraqi authorities have opened first of what they describe as “rehabilitation” camps in Bartalla, just east of Mosul. HRW says the official purpose of the camp is to enable psychological and ideological rehabilitation.“Forced displacements and arbitrary detentions have been taking place in Anbar, Babil, Diyala, Saladin and Nineveh governorates, altogether affecting hundreds of families,” the group said.“Iraqi security and military forces have done little to stop these abuses, and in some instances participated in them.”HRW said it visited Bartalla camp and interviewed 14 families, each with up to 18 members. “New residents said that Iraqi Security Forces had brought the families to the camp and that the police were holding them against their will because of accusations that they had relatives linked to ISIS,” said HRW.“Medical workers at the camp said that at least 10 women and children had died traveling to or at the camp, most because of dehydration.” middleeastmonitor

Tikrit: Islamic State has captured most of a village south of Mosul despite losing control of its stronghold in the city, an Iraqi army officer and residents said, deploying guerrilla-style tactics as its self-proclaimed caliphate crumbles. The militants, armed with machine guns and mortars, have now seized over  75% of Imam Gharbi, a village on the western bank of the Tigris river some 70 km south of Mosul, and reinforcements are expected, the Iraqi army officer said.Islamic State launched its attack on Imam Gharbi last week, in the kind of strike it is expected to deploy now as US-backed Iraqi forces regain control over cities the group captured during its shock 2014 offensive.Mosul resident Hind Mahmoud said by telephone that she had heard exchanges of gunfire in the Old City and seen an Iraqi army helicopter firing on IS militants on Tuesday.

Kashgar:Worshippers quietly passed through metal detectors as they entered the central mosque in China’s far western city of Kashgar under the stern gaze of stone-faced police officers. The increasingly strict curbs imposed on the mostly Muslim Uighur population have stifled life in the tense Xinjiang region, where beards are partially banned and no one is allowed to pray in public. For years, the square outside the mosque in Kashgar was packed with teeming crowds as worshippers jostled for space to unroll their prayer rugs and celebrate the end of Ramadan. But no longer. This year, an eerie silence hung over the plaza outside the imposing prayer hall as devotees gathered to mark the end of a month of fasting — the lowest turnout in a generation according to residents. Authorities declined to comment on the numbers. But local businessmen said. Govt had used multiple checkpoints encircling the city to prevent travellers to Kashgar from joining Eid prayers.“This is not a good place for religion,”said a trader.
