40,000 Rohingya Muslims are in India: Centre to identify, arrest & deport them
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/centre-to-identify-arrest-and-deport-rohingya-muslims/articleshow/57999515.cms
New Delhi: Centre is working on identifying Rohingya Muslims who have entered the country from Myanmar over the past 5-7 years and are staying illegally in various pockets including Jammu, for likely arrest and deportation under the Foreigners Act. According to a senior home ministry official, there are an estimated 40,000 Rohingyas who, after being disowned by Buddhist Myanmar, had fled their homes and crossed over to India to take refuge here. They follow three infiltration routes for entering India; by sea, via Bangladesh border (there are around 3 lakh Rohingyas living in Bangladesh) and via Chin area on Myanmar border.Around 5,500-5,700 of the Rohingya immigrants are based in Jammu alone, though the home ministry fears the number may be 10,000-11,000 if a true count is taken. This, an officer of the central security establishment conceded, is an unusually high percentage of the all-India figure.Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi chaired a meeting here on Monday to make an assessment of the illegal Rohingya settlers in the country and discuss a mechanism for their detection, arrest and deportation. Meeting was attended by J&K chief secretary and DGP, joint secretary (J&K) in MHA and senior BSF and intelligence officers.Though UN Human Rights Commission has recognised around 14,000 Rohingya Muslims living in India as 'refugees', a govt official said India does not accept the status conferred by the UN body as the 'refugees' are merely foreigners who have entered the country illegally. This, as per Indian law, is a violation of the Foreigners Act, which provides for detection, arrest, prosecution and deportation of "illegal immigrants".While the policy on detection and likely deportation of Rohingyas is still being firmed up, an official said their deportation may not be an easy affair considering that Myanmar does not accept them as its citizens and calls them "Bengali interlopers".Rohingya Muslims living here are not found to be linked to any terror activity.TOI

Today all of us, including our brothers in Jamaat-e-Islami, have to come together to fight RSS or our identity and honour will be wiped out,” he said.“I seek your support so that we can all collectively fight against the RSS with honour and courage,” Abdullah said at an election rally in Kangan area of Ganderbal district. As China continues to block UN ban on Azhar, US says veto won’t stop it from acting against terrorists

UN: US said on Tuesday that countries using veto to scuttle sanctioning of terrorists will not “preclude” it from taking action, as China continues to oppose efforts of getting Pakistan-based JeM chief Masood Azhar banned by the UN.“The administration very much is looking at all of these avenues and some of the things we have talked about is sanctions and who is on the list and how we have managed that,” US envoy to the UN Nikki Haley told reporters.“And that is part of what we are going to try and find our place with is that we do want to make sure that we are calling out those that we need to call out,” she said.Haley made the remarks while addressing a press conference after assuming role of president of the Security Council for the month of April. She was asked about efforts to get terrorists, particularly those in the South Asian region, sanctioned under UNSC’s sanctions list and how another permanent member scuttles these efforts by using its veto power, a veiled reference to China blocking moves to ban Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Azhar.“Are we going to have people that veto certain issues? Yes. But that doesn’t preclude the US from acting and it certainly does not preclude us from trying to see if we can change that as well,” Haley said. “Our goal is to get more done together than we do separately. If we cannot get it done separately then we just move in another direction to still get same things done,” she said.PTI

The Lucknow court had ordered the state counsel on March 27th to produce the order by April 3 but the state failed to do so and instead sought more time for it following which, the court gave another day and listed the case for hearing on April 4. A division bench consisting of Narain Shukla and Sheo Kumar Singh issued the order on Monday on a plea filed by Shahabuddin and nine other meat traders. Petitioners had sought the court’s directive for the renewal of licences for their meat shops and had said that the matter was urgent as it was affecting their trade. They further said that their meat shops were closed despite the fact that they had applied for the renewal of licences but these were pending. Petitioner’s councel – GC Sinha argued that the licences of meat shops have not been renewed since 2014. Counsel further claimed that the petitioners had moved a writ petition on the high court in 2015 and the court had sought an reply from the respondants. financialexpress

New Delhi: Hours after spiritual head of Ajmer Dargah said slaughter of bovine animals and sale of beef should be banned across the country to promote communal harmony, several clerics have supported his idea but with skepticism.Dargah Deewan Zainul Abedin Ali Khan on Monday had said he and his family members will stop eating beef and appealed all Muslims to stay away from slaughter of bovine animals.Naib Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid Maulana Mohammed Moazzam Ahmed said, “We are Indians and we need to make this change in our life for our Hindu brothers and sisters.”However, Ahmed was quick to point out that a few politicians were raking up the beef issue for votes.“Recently, in Kerala, a BJP candidate promised ‘quality beef’ to the voters if he is elected... at the expense of Muslims, they are cashing in on votes.”Chairman of the Imam Council of India, Maulana Masood Ul Hassan Qasmi said while he supports the Ajmer Dargah chief’s views, it’s not just Muslims who consume beef.“We stopped eating beef almost 30 years ago when Darul-Uloom-Deoband had issued a fatwa stating that Muslims should not eat beef to respect the sentiments of the Hindus,” said Qasmi.Qasmi was critical of the Ajmer Dargah Chief for “portraying” that only Muslims consume beef. “Who will speak about the Dalits and many others who consume beef? Look at the BJP leaders of Nagaland and other places who have promised that beef ban will never be implemented in those parts,” he said.Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri, president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, said barring a few states cow slaughter was already banned across India. “But it’s bizarre to ban slaughter of all bovine species, including buffalo. For us alcohol is prohibited… should we demand alcohol ban across India?” Umri asked.Mehmood Madani, general secretary, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, said beef was not the only issue causing communal tension.News18.com

Agra:Tensions flared between Hindus and Muslims in Badaun’s Sisarka village on Monday over a dispute regarding an under-construction mosque after Hindutva leader Sadhvi Prachi allegedly met villagers and announced that she would not let any structure be built on “illegal” land. She also reportedly said she would speak to CM Yogi Adityanath about the issue.Last Friday, groups from both communities had clashed after Muslims offered namaz for the first time at the disputed site. While the Muslims claimed that the plot of panchayat land was donated over a decade ago by a former village head for constructing a madrasa and a mosque, Hindus called the structure “illegal”. Later, cross FIRs were registered at Faizganj Behta police station on charges including rioting and dacoity. On Monday, Prachi addressed a small gathering of villagers. “Sadhvi Prachi assured that she will not let the structure be constructed on illegal land and will approach the CM,” said Netram Sharma, a villager. Prachi, however, could not be contacted.“A former village head had donated some land to Muslim community to built a madrasa and a mosque. As the madrasa was the priority and govt funds were available, it was built first. Now, they are trying to build the mosque with the help of donations,” said Kashmir Singh Yadav, SHO of Faizganj Behta police station.Confirming that Prachi had met villagers, the SHO said: “She said she will not let any structure to be built on illegal land.” indianexpress

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/04/attack-syria-kills-35-people-170404075153415.html
At least 58 people, including 9 children, have been killed in an air raid that released "toxic gas" on the rebel-held Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun, doctors and monitoring groups have said. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the attack caused many people to choke or faint, and some had foam coming from their mouths, citing medical sources who described the symptoms as possible signs of a gas attack. Edlib Media Centre (EMC), a pro-opposition group, posted images that were widely shared on social media, showing people being treated by medics and what appeared to be dead bodies, many of them children.Locals said the attack began in the early morning, when they heard planes in the sky followed by a series of loud explosions after which people very quickly began to show symptoms. They said they could not identify the planes. Both Syrian and Russian jets have bombed the area before. Opposition activists and AFP,citing one of its journalists on the scene, later said a rocket had slammed into a hospital where the victims were being treated, bringing rubble down on medics as they struggled to deal with victims. On Sunday, suspected Russian fighter jets bombed a hospital in a city in Idlib, wounding several people, a rescue group said. aljazeera

US believes the Syrian people do not want President Bashar Assad to remain in power and does not accept that he could stand in elections, Ambassador Nikki Haley said Monday.Haley told a news conference that Assad is a “war criminal,” “a hindrance to peace for a long time” and that his treatment of Syrians was “disgusting.”The ambassador was asked about whether US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s comments that Assad’s future was up to the Syrian people meant that the US would accept that he could once again run for the presidency in elections.“No, it doesn’t mean that the US will accept it,” she said.“We don’t think that the people want Assad any more. We don’t think that he is going to be someone that the people want to have.”Following talks in Ankara last week, Tillerson said the “longer term status of President Assad will be decided by the Syrian people,” suggesting that the United States would no longer insist on his departure.“We continue to strongly condemn the actions of Assad and what he has done and he continues to be directly on our radar in terms of what he does,” said Haley.AFP
