Govt plans to send Muslim team to Jammu & Kashmir
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Govt-plans-to-send-Muslim-team-to-Jammu-Kashmir/articleshow/53954577.cms
New Delhi: Finance minister Arun Jaitley and consumer affairs minister Ram Vilas Paswan may accompany Rajnath Singh and others in the 35-member all-party delegation to Jammu & Kashmir on Sept.4. Govt sources said the names of 26 representatives from different parties were received for the delegation.Paswan was part of a similar delegation which had visited the valley in 2010 and had met Hurriyat leaders, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Govt also plans to send a delegation of prominent Muslim leaders to the state as part of an unofficial peace initiative.Muslim leaders from across the country had met home minister Rajnath Singh twice and expressed willingness to visit J&K. Sources said Singh conveyed to these leaders that they were free to visit any place and if their trip to the valley helped bring peace, it would be welcome. Officials, however, made it clear that the Muslim leaders were not authorized to carry out any `track-II' dialogue with any stakeholder in J&K. It would be a goodwill initiative, an official said. Muslim leaders would be free to meet anyone and could interact with individuals, groups or separatists, the source said. This visit is likely to take place after the two-day visit of the all-party delegation on Sept.4-5. Leaders likely to be part of the Muslim delegation are ex-Rajya Sabha MP Shahid Siddiqui, ex-interlocutor for J&K MM Ansari, defence analyst Qamar Agha and Zafarul Islam Khan, among others.

Police raid J&K Jamaat HQ, leaders on run:KashmirReader
http://kashmirreader.com/2016/09/01/police-raid-jamaat-headquarters-leaders-on-run/
Srinagar: Counter insurgency police on Wednesday raided the HQRS of J&K Jamaat-e-Islami, one of the most influential politico-religious organizations in J&K, and arrested its spokesman and head of political bureau Zahid Ali Lone. Last week, the state police chief summoned Jamaat chief Ghulam Muhammad Bhat to his office after police shot with pellets an 80-year-old Jamaat leader, Abdul Qayoom Bhat, and his wife at Buchoo-Kamla village in south Kashmir’s Tral pocket, critically injuring the elderly couple.Jamaat sharply reacted to the police raid, calling it unjustified and undemocratic.Sources said that a contingent of police raided the Jamaat headquarters at Baranpathar in Batamaloo, which is under strict curfew for several days and the area where anti-India protests routinely occur. Jamaat HQRS is located in the vicinity of the police control room.“Police and SOG (special operations group) personnel raided Jamaat HQRS at about 11:30am. Govt forces first cordoned off the building, then barged in. They searched and asked for Jamaat leaders,” a statement issued by the organisation said. A worker at the Jamaat HQRS said that the cops searched every room of the spacious building where most of the rooms were unattended, as office-bearers are not able to come due to the situation of unrest in Kashmir. Police later arrested Zahid Ali, an advocate from Pampore, who heads the political bureau of the organisation and issues statements to the press. Ali had earlier been detained at Nowgam on his way to Pulwama but was later released. Jamaat has accused PDP-BJP coalition govt of launching a massive crackdown against the organisation’s members and sympathisers. Many members have gone into hiding to avoid arrest. Sources said that police and intelligence agencies are describing the Jamaat cadre and leadership as the engine behind the current anti-India uprising. Sources said that police were looking for young Jamaat scholar Mujahid Shabir Falahi when they raided his house in Tral last week. While Falahi was not present, the govt forces picked up his younger brother Noor Muhammad. When his father Abdul Qayoom Bhat raised objection to the arrest, furious policemen fired pellet guns that injured Bhat and his wife.

Srinagar:Authorities on Thursday imposed curfew at three places in the Kashmir Valley as separatists extended their protest shutdown till Sept.8. “Curfew has been imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta and M.R.Gunj police stations in Srinagar city along with Baramulla,” a senior police official said.Authorities had lifted curfew from the entire Valley on Tuesday, 52 days after the unrest started on July 9. One youth identified as Danish Ahmad, 18, was killed in firing by the security when a mob pelted stones at a passing army convoy in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district on Wednesday. Mobs also torched the house of ruling PDP Rajya Sabha member, Nazir Ahmad Laway in Chawalgam village in Kulgam district. Reports here said the mob first torched the guard room at his house and then set fire to the main building.A stone pelting mob engaged security forces in clashes in Sopore town on Thursday morning while another mob torched a three-wheeler in Nawa Kadal area of Srinagar city for defying the shutdown called by the separatists. The separatists have issued a fresh protest calendar through which they have asked people to continue the shutdown till Sept. 8.IANS

No concrete proof against Zakir Naik, security agencies asked to probe deeper
http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/no-concrete-proof-against-zakir-naik-security-agencies-asked-to-probe-deeper-3006939/
New Delhi: Security agencies will analyse Zakir Naik’s speeches in a more comprehensive manner and conduct a more exhaustive probe before any decision is taken on whether to gag him and ban his NGO, IRF, as an unlawful association. The development comes with the Law Ministry advising Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which has jurisdiction over security agencies, that not enough evidence is on record to proceed against Naik, sources said Wednesday. Sources also said that a scrutiny by the Home Ministry of IRF’s accounts have not revealed any violations of foreign funding norms so far. “We have been advised to analyse a larger number of speeches delivered by Naik to arrive at a clearer picture of whether he is liable for any action. While several of his speeches have already been analysed, we will now have to go through as many of his speeches as is possible – not all his speeches might be easily available,” a source in the MHA said. The process could take weeks, or even months, as it is “extremely laborious”. Source said, “Videos of Naik’s speeches available in the public domain will have to be authenticated to prove they are not doctored in any way, and then they will have to be carefully transcribed.” Indian express

IRF said that its foreign fund license was renewed only last under FCRA."IRF had applied for a license which was renewed last week by Home Ministry. After renewal of license we were sent questionnaire by the concerned authority asking for clarifications on our source of income to which we have replied,"said IRF spokesperson. It is also learned that a scrutiny of IRF's accounts by the Home Ministry did not reveal any violations of foreign funding norms. "We don't agree with the opinion of respected Solicitor General that Dr Zakir Naik is spreading enmity between religions. Though,we appreciate the fact that he asked for more evidence because there is not an iota of evidence against the IRF and Dr Naik.y," said IRF's lawyer Mobin Solkar. India Today

http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/rahul-gandhi-statement-rss-mahatma-gandhi-assassination-supreme-court-3007847/
New Delhi:Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is set to stand trial for allegedly linking the RSS with assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in an election speech in 2014. A bench led by Justice Dipak Misra of the Supreme Court dismissed the petition as withdrawn after Rahul’s counsel Kapil Sibal said he would prefer to stand trial before a magistrate in the criminal defamation case. Sibal said his client stood by every word he had said in his election speech in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi and that he was ready to go to trial. This statement came after counsel for complainant, who is a RSS member, submitted in court that Rahul must show his bonafide and undertake in unequivocal terms that he did not consider RSS as institution involved in the crime. At this, the bench said it was not inclined to interfere in Rahul’s appeal against the summons order. It also refused to grant the Congress leader liberty not to personally appear before the magistrate and said he should move this plea before the trial court.“I will never stop fighting the hateful & divisive agenda of the RSS. I stand by every single word I said,” Rahul tweeted a few days ago in an attempt to counter reports that he had taken a U-turn.indianexpress

Aalamgiri Mosque to be rebuilt on Ayodhya temple land
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/lucknow/Mosque-to-be-rebuilt-on-Ayodhya-temple-land/articleshow/53953610.cms
Ayodhya: Nearly 24 years after Babri Masjid was demolished, resulting in communal strife across India, 300-year-old dilapidated mosque would be rebuilt on land belonging to Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhya. Days after local civic body declared Aalamgiri Masjid 'hazardous' and pasted notice banning entry into building, Hanumangarhi temple trust, which is in possession of the masjid land, not only allowed its reconstruction and agreed to bear cost but also welcomed Muslims to offer namaz in premises. Aalamgiri Masjid was built with the consent of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb by one of his generals in Ayodhya in 17th century.Seeking its condition, Ayodhya municipal board recently put up a notice on its wall and banned entry into the masjid. It galvanized a group of local Muslims and they met Hanumangarhi's chief priest Mahant Gyan Das, requesting him the permission to get the masjid repaired.Their meeting ended in a pleasant surprise. The temple management not only allowed the local Muslims to get the masjid reconstructed, but also offered to bear the cost. "I asked our Muslim brothers to renovate and reconstruct the masjid on our expense and also issued no-objection certificate for Muslims to offer namaz as this is also a 'Khuda ka ghar'," Mahant Gyan Das told TOI. "I am also extending support to reno vation of a mausoleum on the premises which is as old as the masjid," added Gyan Das, who has been holding iftar for Ayodhya Muslims during Ramzan.Historian Roshan Taqui said, "After the battle of Buxar in 1764, Shujauddaulah, the Nawab of Awadh moved his capital from Faizabad to Lucknow. During his reign in Faizabad he had already donated the land in Ayodhya for construction of Hanumangarhi temple. After he shifted to Lucknow, when a delegation of mahants visited him and appealed for more land, the nawab donated 4 pucca bighas of land that already had on it a masjid built by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.""I am also extending support for the renovation of a mausoleum on the premises which is as old as the masjid," added Gyan Das, who has been holding iftar for Ayodhya Muslims during Ramzan. BJP leader questions Dalit-Muslim unity

New Delhi:With the opposition trying to consolidate Dalit and Muslim support in the wake of increased atrocities on the communities by self-proclaimed cow vigilantes, a senior BJP leader warned Dalit communities that unity between the two is not sustainable, and that it has been “historically proven” that whenever these two communities got together, Dalits got “wiped out”.In an effort to prove that Dalits purportedly cannot “grow” under Muslims, BJP general secretary P Muralidhar Rao cited the example of Pakistan. “Look at Pakistan. Where are the Dalits there? Population of Dalits has diminished there, unlike in India where, despite the narrow agenda of some communities and social problems, Dalit population has grown,” Rao said at a function of Bharat Niti,a policy advocacy platform of the BJP and RSS on Dalit entrepreneurship. indianexpress

Lucknow: AIMIM was denied permission by the Kanpur administration to hold a rally at the Halim Muslim College Ground on Aug. 28 because of worries that it may wean Muslims away from the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) ahead of next year’s polls, HT has found. AIMIM — a Hyderabad-based party — wanted its leader Asaduddin Owaisi to address the meeting in the Muslim-dominated locality under the Sisamau assembly constituency of SP MLA Irfan Solanki. But in an August 26 order denying permission, ADM Avinash Singh wrote, “Owaisi has been very sharp and critical of ruling party leaders in his speeches. His rally could split SP votes and reduce its support base in the region.”Muslims form almost a fifth of the UP population and are expected to prove decisive in at least 100 of the state’s 403 assembly seats next year. AIMIM is fighting to gain a toehold in the state where the BJP is fighting with the SP, BSP and Congress.HT

Muslim community in India has the lowest share of graduates compared with other communities and just half the share of the nationwide average of under 6%. The Jains continue to be the most educationally advanced community with over a quarter of its members qualified as graduate or above. The share of technical diploma holders is the highest among Christians at 2.2%, again continuing a previous trend, with Sikhs following at 0.8%.A heartening feature is that the most educationally deprived communities like Muslims and Buddhist are surging forward with shares increasing at a faster pace than other communities when compared to a decade earlier. timesofindia

Around 100 male students of Dr K Shivarama Karanth Govt  First Grade College in Bellare are wearing saffron shawl over their shirts from past few days as a mark of protest.Their argument is that they will continue wearing saffron shawls until the principal takes suitable action against students who wear hijab.Stating the male students have been coming to classes wearing shawls from past one week, the student said, "As hijab is symbol of their religion, we have started wearing saffron shawl that symbolises our religion. We will not shout any slogans, protest or disrupt classes but will continue to wear unless others remove their scarf and attend classes."

Nagpur: A sordid tale of sexual abuse of three girls 'adopted' by a former scientist in the city brought to mind the scary tale of Austrian Josef Fritzl, who raped his daughter for 24 years in captivity. In the case that came to light on Wednesday, the eldest daughter, 16, is learnt to have told police that she was exploited since she was in Standard 1, while the one aged around 11 too has been facing sexual abuse for last many years. The youngest daughter is just 6-and-half-years-old. 72-year-old Maqsood Ansari, ex-assistant scientist with a top institution in the city, allegedly exploited his 3 adopted daughters by threatening them for last several years. Dhantoli police arrested Ansari on Wednesday and charged him with rape and provisions of Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act, 2012.Ansari, who married at least twice but is never known to have fathered a biological child, had apparently adopted his daughters at tender ages on the pretext of bringing them up and educate them. Police have now discovered that Ansari had been forcing himself upon the daughters regularly.
